Domex Halo 2 Pinnacle NZ

Searching For a Halo?

If you’ve been looking for a Domex Halo, Halo 2, or Halo Pinnacle sleeping bag, you might wonder why they’re no longer available on our website or in stores.

Made with premium goose down fill, these bags have been long-time favourites among Kiwi adventurers, celebrated for their exceptional warmth and compact pack size. But with the rising cost of living and the sharp increase in the price of goose down, we had to ask ourselves a serious question:

Is it right to keep making a product that will become unaffordable for so many New Zealanders?

Domex has always taken pride in delivering premium comfort at an accessible price. So when the time came to refresh the Halo range, we knew real Kiwi adventurers had to remain at the heart of our decision-making.

Instead of simply launching another top-tier Halo bag at an even higher price than before, we chose a different path. We set out to create a sleeping bag that delivers the same warmth, reliability, and cold-weather performance at a price more New Zealanders can afford.

That sleeping bag is the Domex Venture.

Why We Paused the Halo Range of Sleeping Bags

The Halo, Halo 2, and Halo Pinnacle were crafted with high-quality goose down, making them ultralight, highly packable, and incredibly warm. However, the cost of goose down has escalated to unsustainable levels. At current prices, any new iteration of the Halo would have ended up significantly more expensive, pushing it out of reach for many.

The Halo series became the benchmark for premium Domex sleeping bags in New Zealand, and we take that legacy seriously. We’ve worked hard to honour everything the Halo stood for and to deliver a new generation of sleeping bags that exceed expectations.

We’d never say never to another Halo, but we believe every Kiwi deserves access to high-performance outdoor gear, which is why we developed the Venture series.

The Venture Delivers Where It Counts

The Domex Venture matches the warmth of the original Halo series while using a more cost-effective insulation: duck down.

Duck down is slightly heavier and takes up a bit more space in your pack, trade-offs we were willing to make to deliver outstanding value for money without sacrificing performance.

Key features of the Venture include:

  • EN-tested insulation for proven reliability
  • Tougher outer fabrics and a stronger casing
  • The same trusted Domex build quality
  • A far more accessible price
