When thinking about what shape to choose it is best to consider what type of sleeper you are plus the conditions you will predominantly using the bag in.

Mummy sleeping bags are wider at the shoulder and taper significantly at the foot – think Tutankhamunin in his sarcophagus. Mummy sleeping bags hug the body shape and keep the warmth in due to its narrower shape. Recommended in colder conditions.

Semi rectangular sleeping bags taper slightly at the foot of the bag. Semi-rectangular sleeping bags still taper towards the foot but a lot less than a mummy bag. This makes for a roomier sleep if you’re the type of person that likes to change sleeping positions often.
